ButtonEmbrace meaningful work and personal growth in a supportive environment
Embrace meaningful work and personal growth in a supportive environment with Wahi Hana, a unique initiative designed to empower adults with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) through therapeutic work opportunities. This innovative initiative fosters mental well-being independence, helping participants gain valuable job experience, increase self-confidence, and integrate into the community while benefiting both their mental health and Hawaiʻi's communities and ʻāina. Aligning with Root & Rise Hawaiʻi's core values of growth and empowerment, Wahi Hana offers a supportive environment where participants can develop essential job skills and achieve personal growth.
Participants in Wahi Hana gain numerous benefits, including:
- Developing transferable job skills, and coping and social skills
- Fostering a sense of kuleana (responsibility) and community integration
- Promoting mental well-being through therapeutic activities
- Earning income and receive government benefits counseling
We are currently developing a pilot Wahi Hana internship which will include opportunities to work with ʻāina-based and community engagement projects.
